Medicine checker

Type your medicine's name as you know it, and see whether it's registered in the Netherlands, its active ingredient, and how it's sold here.

Pilot: 14 medicines. Last checked: October 2026.

This tool can't tell you whether to take, switch, stop or substitute a medicine — that's always a question for your doctor or pharmacist. It only tells you what's officially registered and how it's classified in the Netherlands. Two products with the same active ingredient aren't automatically interchangeable for you; a pharmacist can tell you whether an alternative is suitable. Your search stays in your browser — it's never sent anywhere, logged, or shared with any analytics tool. The only exception is if you choose to use the optional "tell us which medicine" box on a no-match result: that one line of text is submitted to our form provider, Netlify, which automatically records the IP address of whoever submits it along with the text (we don't add this ourselves, and we don't collect a name or email with it, but the IP address is captured by Netlify's forms system and we can't turn that off).

Brand-name and active-ingredient cross-referencing for this pilot was researched against official Dutch sources (CBG Geneesmiddeleninformatiebank, apotheek.nl, the Opiumwet) and checked per entry — see docs/fact-check.md for every source and date. Wider brand-name coverage is planned using the European Medicines Agency's Article 57 database and the US National Library of Medicine's RxNorm, both of which permit reuse with attribution.
